Well, one off the biggest questions I had was, after I build the Alchemy Engine to I need to keep a Science Machine nearby to have access to the recipe it provides? When I first started playing Don’t Starve and Don’t Starve Together I was kind of confused with the mechanics of the Science Machine and the Alchemy Engine, which sort of extended to the Prestihatitator and Shadow Manipulator.
DO YOU NEED A SCIENCE MACHINE AFTER CRAFTING AN ALCHEMY ENGINE? Players will need 4 Limestone, 2 Sand and 2 Electrical Doodads to prototype the Sea Lab while standing next to a Science Machine. The Sea Lab is no different than the Alchemy Engine, in the sense that it is a tier-2 science station, but it can only be placed in the Ocean. Players will also have the option of using the Sea Lab when playing Shipwrecked. Players will be required to stand next to a Science Machine to initially prototype the Alchemy Engine. The Alchemy Engine requires 6 Gold Nuggets, 4 Boards and 2 Cut Stones to prototype it in single-player Don’t Starve and will require 4 Boards, 2 Cut Stones and 2 Electrical Doodads. The following guide will take you through everything you need to know about the Alchemy Engine, when you should craft it, what recipes you must prototype using the Alchemy Engine and what recipes you should prioritize prototyping when accessing the Alchemy Engine. While players may not find it essential to have an Alchemy Engine initially, the reality is that players will want to craft an Alchemy Engine within the first week, if not the first season, of any of the Don’t Starve games simply because waiting to prototype an Alchemy Engine will severely hinder a player as many of the crafting recipes provided are considered essential for a player to progress in the game. The Alchemy Engine is considered an essential item for players in all versions of Don’t Starve as the Alchemy Engine provides players with a number of stronger item upgrades including items from the Tools Tab, Light Tab, Survival Tab, Food Tab, Science Tab, Fight Tab, Structures Tab, Dress Tab, Books Tab, Nautical Tab (Shipwrecked & Hamlet), Treasure Hunting Tab (Hamlet), and Refine Tab (Don’t Starve Together). The Alchemy Engine is known as the tier-2 Science station in Don’t Starve and Don’t Starve Together and can be crafted in all variants of the game including Reign of Giants (RoG), Hamlet (HAM), Shipwrecked (SW) and of course, as mentioned, Don’t Starve Together (DST).
